Relationships and Corruption: similar but not the same

Close relationships with political and economic decision makers can contain elements of corruption, but do not necessarily imply them
The development of an effective network can partially happen in the grey area. This can include, for instance, the exchange of presents or invitations to events and trips
Overdoing it with invitations and presents can lead to a situation, in which the company is not perceived as a serious and competent business partner, but as a supplier of free entertainment
Business practices in China develop in a symbiotic relation, in parallel to the changing demands of the rapidly evolving economy. Once established, it can be difficult to eliminate corruption from the local structures of a company
Recurrent anti-corruption movements are deliberately utilized as dissuasive measures by the Chinese government. This increases the risk for foreign companies to be held publically accountable for using corrupt business practices

Fundamental principles for the China strategy

Approaches that either adapt to local circumstances completely or absolutely ignore them in favor of general business practices will not be very successful in China in the long-term
Organization have to define coherent and realistic strategies for their activities in China
The approach has to be clearly and consistently communicated and explained to employees and stakeholders

PERFORMANCE SIMULATOR®: Further pilot projects have begun

After the success of the pilot projects in January with two districts (Pudong and Songjiang) in Shanghai, the pilot projects with the teachers’ training colleges in other three districts, namely Jinan, Yangpu and Chongming, have begun this week.Nach dem Erfolg der Pilotprojekte im Januar in den zwei Bezirken Pudong und Songjiang (Shanghai), haben diese Woche die Pilotprojekte mit den Lehrerbildungsinstituten in drei weiteren Bezirken begonnen: Jinan, Yangpu und Chongming

About 350 young teachers with 3-7 years’ teaching experience from kindergartens, primary schools, middle schools and high schools participated in the 4-day workshops to introduce the PERFORMANCE SIMULATOR® Directing in Teaching and the Learning Management System. The purpose of the kick-off workshop was to introduce our e-learning platform and to implement the PERFORMANCE SIMULATOR® Directing in Teaching in the coming seven weeks.

The feedback to the workshop and the training content from the participants and the workshop organizers (Teachers’ Training Colleges) was very positive. They found the design of the workshop new and interactive and the content of the PERFORMANCE SIMULATOR® Directing in Teaching interesting and close to their daily teaching practice. In the workshop the participants had an intensive discussion about the school cultural differences between Germany and China.

During the role play, the participants demonstrated the classic situations in Chinese schools, both in and outside the classroom. In this way, the participants reflected the theoretical background of the PERFORMANCE SIMULATOR® Directing in Teaching. More importantly, it helped them to realize the importance of building a trustful and appreciating relationship with students, colleagues and parents, and to create an active and productive learning atmosphere to encourage the students’ initiative, proactivity and responsibility of learning. Yiqing Zhang strengthens our team in China

We would like to welcome a new colleague, Mr. Yiqing Zhang to our team. Yiqing has been one of our team members since October 2013. His challenging task is to develop our consulting business in China, particularly in Shanghai.

Professional Background

During his study in the prestigious Tonggi University in Shanghai, majoring in Communication Studies, Yiqing was engaged in various consulting areas. As a member of the Sino-French International Programme for Journalists, he was involved in the research of the propagation and function of urban life forms. He also worked as a freelance journalist for ‘Xinmin Newsweek. During this time, he focused particularly on social investigations: Which activities are of social interest? Do such activities follow rules? How do the social expectations work?

After graduation, he has worked for international consulting firms in the automobile industry for many years. He was particularly engaged in analysing the successful implementation of change processes, from which he has gained a lot of experience in the collaboration projects between China and Germany. His last position as Marketing and Media Manager at a Chinese state-owned enterprise ideally equiped him for his new role as the Head of Marketing in China at transformis®.

We are very pleased to have found another qualified and committed Chinese colleague in Yiqing. We wish him all the best and a successful start at transformis®.

Representative Office in Shanghai becomes a Chinese Affiliate

transformis®‘s representative office in Shanghai has successfully transformed into the Chinese affiliate of “transformis® International Consulting”. SEDLÁK & PARNTER has been active in Asia since 2011 and is located in one of the most popular business centers in Shanghai, the “Shanghai International Finance Centre” (IFC).

Mrs. Hanhan Jia becomes Managing Director

Mrs. Hanhan Jia, who has been responsible for the representative office since 2011, will now be the “Managing Director”. Apart from managing the existing customer projects, she will focus on implementing the “Service Package China” in the Chinese market. The service offers have also been revised and adopted along with the transformation. Our current focus is on the Human Resource Development.

The “Service Package China” thus covers the following consulting topics: “Job Profiles with Validated Personality Profiles”, “Employee Assessment and Development” and a targeted development of competencies with the training tool PERFORMANCE SIMULATOR. Besides, transformis® International Consulting will also focus on “Innovative Customer Segmentation”.

The topic “Job Profiles with Validated Personality Profiles” aims at the congruence between organizational requirement and the personality profiles of candidates. The specific description of a company’s requirement will save time and money in the selection process. It also makes the search for suitable employees more efficient and accurate. The requirement description not only defines qualifications and competencies, but also takes into consideration a candidate’s potentiality, risk factors and motivation.

The “Innovative Customer Segmentation” offers a new way to view customers, competitors and one’s own strategic positioning. By intensively analyzing the specific needs of potential customers and the following characterization and segmentation, organizations will be able to work out the unique value propositions. As a result, organizations will create a special range of services with sustainable competitive advantages.
