			<p><strong>Together with the ECNU (East China Normal University), the second-largest state university and one of the most renowned comprehensive universities in China, transformis® founded the ECNU-S&amp;P Research Center in 2013.</strong></p>
<p><strong>As part of this research collaboration</strong>, <strong>the</strong> <a href="http://smart-education-china.org/initiative/"><strong>Smart Education China initiative</strong></a><strong> was launched. The goal of this project is to sustainably improve the Chinese education system by having teachers act as coaches and thus facilitate the development of lifelong learning skills for students.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Initially, a study was conducted in 2016 as part of the initiative on the requirements of Western companies towards Chinese school and university graduates and their degree of fulfillment. As part of a follow-up study, the research has now been expanded to include the perspective of young professionals in China. The results of both studies were published in the ECNU Scientific Journal in November 2021. </strong></p>

			<p>In the course of globalization, the demand for employees and talent has been redefined. More and more Western companies need well-trained young professionals in China to meet the increasing demand for qualified employees. Can Chinese school and university education keep up with the rapidly changing new world? Once Chinese graduates enter the professional world, can they meet the expectations placed on them? Based on these questions, the ECNU-S&amp;P Research Center has been analyzing the professional qualifications of graduates in China since 2014 as part of the Smart Education China initiative &#8211; with a view to schools, vocational schools, and universities.</p>
<p>A key focus of the research is the extent to which Chinese graduates meet the expectations of international companies. To understand the impact of Chinese education on the labor market, the first step of the research center was a large-scale survey of Western companies to assess the professional qualifications of Chinese graduates. An online survey was used to find out what skills Western companies expect from the school and university graduates. In addition to the requirements of these companies, the degree to which these requirements are met was also surveyed. With the support of the German Chamber in Shanghai, over 300 Western companies based in China were included in the analysis.</p>
<p>Based on the survey results, continuous analysis of the professional qualifications of university graduates in China was initiated. In cooperation between transformis® and ECNU, a comprehensive study report was prepared in 2017, published in the business magazine German Chamber Ticker in 2018, and submitted by ECNU to the Chinese Ministry of Education in 2019 as an important research basis.</p>
<p>In September 2020, S&amp;P-ECNU Research Center received a request from the Journal ECNU (Educational Science Edition) to conduct a further study, building on the existing study findings. The original study on the professional qualifications of Chinese university graduates was supplemented by the perspective of the graduates themselves.</p>
<p>For this purpose, qualitative analyses were conducted in which some 30 young Chinese professionals participated in the form of online or face-to-face interviews. The interviewees consisted of three groups: Young professionals working for Western companies in China, those working for international corporations in Germany or other countries in Europe, and some young Chinese workers working for companies headquartered in China and working in an international context. In the interviews conducted, young workers were able to express their agreement with the survey results, as well as reflect and comment on assessments by company managers or HR managers on the effective use of their qualifications in professional practice.</p>
<p>The analysis yielded interesting and revealing findings: On the one hand, Western employees often felt that poorly trained methodological and communication skills of Chinese graduates made it more difficult for them to apply their theoretical knowledge in practice, making it harder for them to effectively develop existing strengths. On the other hand, more than half of the young professionals surveyed believe that Western employees underestimate some of their social skills, such as critical thinking, taking responsibility, or independence. They suspect that this is due to intercultural differences between Western and Chinese work cultures and the resulting patterns of observation and evaluation.</p>
<p>However, all of the Chinese employees interviewed agreed with the overall results of the survey of Western companies and acknowledged existing deficiencies with regard to professional soft skills and their training in the Chinese school and university system.</p>

			<p>The <a href="http://smart-education-china.org/initiative/">initiative Smart Education China</a> is the second project of the ECNU-S&amp;P Research Center. The ECNU-S&amp;P Research Center for ICT-Enabled Systemic Changes and Innovations was founded in 2013 in a cooperation between ECNU and transformis®. The project aims to improve the Chinese education system in the long term by enabling teachers to act as coaches and thus enable students to develop their practical skills.</p>
<p>In the future, schools in China should be based on a system that gives equal importance to equity, quality, and innovation.</p>

			<p>The ECNU-S&amp;P Research Center has been commissioned with a new research project. In cooperation with the Journal of East China Normal University (Educational Sciences), our study on the expectations of Western companies regarding the professional qualifications of Chinese school and university graduates and their degree of fulfillment will be supplemented by the perspective of the graduates and their experiences as young professionals in Western companies.</p>
<p>From 2014 to 2017, the ECNU-S&amp;P Research Center analyzed the professional qualifications of Chinese high school and college graduates in various studies as part of the Smart Education China initiative. Central to the research was the question of the extent to which Chinese school and university graduates meet the expectations of Western companies, as strong dissatisfaction was observed in this context. To this end, around 300 Western companies operating in the Chinese labor market, among others, were asked what expectations they had of Chinese graduates in various disciplines and to what extent these expectations were met. <p>One of the key findings of the study was that the reason for Western companies&#8217; dissatisfaction with Chinese young professionals is not primarily a lack of professional skills. Rather, it is the lack of methodological and social skills, or the fact that they are only slightly developed, that makes it difficult for young professionals to apply their theoretical knowledge in practice in a targeted manner.</p>
<p>As part of the new research contract initiated, the ECNU-S&amp;P Research Center was commissioned to supplement the results of the first research series, in which primarily managers and employees from the human resources departments of Western companies were interviewed, with the perspective of Chinese young professionals. In interviews, the young employees are asked about the extent to which they can effectively apply their theoretical school and university education in their professional lives.</p>
<p>The main respondents are young professionals who work for Western companies in China. In addition, young Chinese employees who work for international corporations in Germany or Europe will be surveyed. A control group of young Chinese employees who work for internationally active Chinese companies within China will also be surveyed.</p>

			<p>Recruiting technically qualified young people is a major challenge for companies. Companies often have to cut back on preferred qualifications. In particular, recruiting suitable young people in technical fields and in research and development is proving difficult. The main reasons cited are insufficient methodological and technical knowledge on the part of applicants and a lack of practical experience.</p>
<p>The high level of fluctuation currently present on China&#8217;s labor market makes personnel development more difficult. &#8220;Job hopping&#8221; has become a new &#8220;popular sport&#8221; in China. Competition for the scarce talent is driving up salaries and making it difficult for companies to recruit and retain employees. Employees are aware of the scarcity of qualified junior staff and are taking advantage of this for career opportunities and salary jumps by changing employers.</p>

			<p>The demands of the companies on the level of competency training differ with regard to different functions, positions and into different organizational areas. A total of 37 competencies from the following four clusters were included in the analysis:</p>

Experience and additional qualifications</p>
<p>With regard to the competencies for which the difference between the importance or expected degree of competency training and its fulfillment is greatest, it is noticeable that technical competencies as well as experiences and additional qualifications are missed less than social and personal competencies. It is also apparent that the companies surveyed have higher requirements for the trained competencies of graduates, the higher the level of educational attainment.</p>

			<p>The results of the present study show that an evolution toward holistic quality education must take place. Diverse, changing market requirements demand competencies that enable flexible and lifelong learning for the entire company as well as for each individual young or seasoned employee. In addition, the availability of information is constantly increasing. At the same time, the half-life of knowledge is decreasing. Chinese companies and their employees are required to constantly update what they have learned and to further develop their skills. Simply imparting knowledge and testing it in examinations does not contribute to the sustainable development of the desired knowledge economy. Skills for acquiring and evaluating knowledge must be promoted. Exam education hinders China&#8217;s path to a knowledge economy by robbing students of all creativity and initiative through constant memorization. Graduates lack key social, personal and methodological skills to constantly adapt themselves to a changing world.</p>

			<p>The educational initiative Smart Education China is the second project of the ECNU-S&amp;P Research Center. The ECNU-S&amp;P Research Center for ICT-Enabled Systemic Changes and Innovations was founded in 2013 in a cooperation between ECNU and transformis®. The project aims to improve the Chinese education system in the long term by enabling teachers to act as coaches and thus enable students to develop their practical skills.</p>
<p>In the future, schools in China shall be based on a system that considers equality, quality, and innovation to the same extent.</p>

This sharpened the view of which of these segments in China should be processed with high priority and which should be neglected.</p>
<p>In this way, a valid answer to the question: &#8220;Where can and do we want to grow?&#8221; Was found. However, this was only one side of the coin. It was also necessary to find answers to the question with which customers or customer segments (simple show customer segments) can the existing potential of the company be leveraged.</p>

			<p>Next to a market research a specific customer survey was designed, especially suitable for our customers in order to determine the characteristics of existing customer segments and the associated minimum expectations and differentiation potential.</p>
<p>The special questionnaire was distributed as online survey on a self-hosted platform. In close cooperation with our customer, around 400 key players were identified for 100 existing and potential customers who influence the purchase decision.</p>
<p>The key players on the customer side were first called personally to explain the purpose and benefits of the survey. This should ensure that they can be won over to participate in the survey. After the phone call, the link to the online survey was sent electronically. The initial expectations regarding participation in the survey were far exceeded. With a participation of over 70%, valuable data was generated to determine the special characteristics of existing customer segments.</p>

			<p>The results were surprising. Eight different customer segments with special characteristics were identified in the prioritized market segments. Each customer segment has specific expectations of the product and service portfolio, time-critical processes, price conditions, tolerance for deviations in the case of free services, relationship management as well as brand and image. After presenting the results, it quickly became clear what potential there was and how it could be used by the company.</p>

This tool was very much appreciated as it helps to identify and work out the cause and effect chains between the<strong> financial perspective</strong>, the <strong>customer perspective</strong> (including the market and customer segments) and the <strong>internal process perspective</strong> (including the service creation, customer management, innovation and social processes as well as the framework conditions).</p>

<li>What different customer segments exist in the market segments with regard to minimum expectations and differentiation potential?</li>
<li>Which market and customer segments should be addressed with high priority?</li>
<li>What must the services for each customer segment look like in terms of product portfolio, time-critical processes, price conditions, services, relationship management as well as brand and image?</li>
<li>What has to be done internally to successfully process the different customer segments in the context of customer management?</li>
<li>What needs to be done internally to deliver the expected performance per customer segment?</li>
<li>Who has to do what by when to achieve the goals set?</li>
</ul>
<p>One of the most important insights from the process for the management was that the existing market potential is many times larger than originally assumed. It became clear how to handle the different customer segments in the markets.</p>
<p>All workshops were initially carried out in English, but with simultaneous translation into Chinese. The Chinese key players greatly appreciated not being overwhelmed by language and especially discussing and discussing challenging topics in their own language.</p>
<p><strong>An intensive implementation process now follows with the aim of increasing sales and profit significantly.</strong></p>

			<p>On April 19th 2016 the 5th German-Chinese personnel conference <a href="http://www.sino-hr-conference.com/en">&#8220;Sino HR Conference 2016&#8221;</a> takes place in Frankfurt am Main.</p>
<p>For this occasion, Mr. <a href="http://en.transformis-consulting.de/project/boris-wesemann/">Boris Wesemann</a> will present our <a href="http://smart-education-china.org/">Smart Education China Initiative</a>, conducted in 2015, with the topic <em>&#8220;China’s educational system: Expectations of Western companies towards Chinese school and university graduates”</em> as well as the analyzed results of the online survey.</p>

<h2>About the event</h2>
<p>The Sino HR Conference serves as an information platform regarding important HR topics in the German-Chinese context for the company management as well as HR managers and employees. Experienced speakers from China and the EU address current topics and report on their experiences.</p>
<p>Structured around the key themes of “Managing The New Normal” and “Best Practice – Recruiting &amp; Talent Management”, also in its fifth year, the German-Chinese HR conference is devoted to highly relevant topics.</p>
<p>Furthermore, the agenda of the conference highlights current developments such as “the slowdown in economic growth,” “a highly volatile stock market” and “a stagnant global economy.” Additionally, it deals with how the Chinese government have for some time been preparing the country for a qualitative growth with much slower growth rates (“The New Normal”).</p>

<h2>About the person</h2>
<p><a href="http://en.transformis-consulting.de/project/boris-wesemann/">Boris Wesemann</a> is Head of Learning and Development at transformis®. Holding a degree in business education, he advises companies in the development of learning architectures and designs Blended Learning concepts for the interlinked organizational and personnel development.</p>
<p>In 2013, the <a href="http://smart-education-china.org/research-center/"> <em>&#8220;ECNU-S&amp;P Research Center for ICT-Enabled Systemic Changes and Innovations&#8221;</em> </a> was founded by <a href="http://smart-education-china.org/ecnu/#anker_zhiting">Prof. Dr. Zhu Zhiting</a> and <a href="http://smart-education-china.org/sedlak-partner/#anker_robert">Guest Prof. Robert Sedlák</a> within a cooperation project between transformis® and the East China Normal University (ECNU). For this research cooperation, Mr. Boris Wesemann led the online survey to determine the expectations of Western companies towards Chinese school and university graduates. Among other things, the results of the study are used for a needs analysis to develop competence models for teacher training and qualitative development of the schools in China.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In the past month, transformis® successfully hosted the first <strong>PERFORMANCE SIMULATOR® </strong>workshop at the ECNU in Shanghai.</p>
<p>Twelve educational experts from all over China participated in the two day workshop on the 14th and 15th of August 2014 which was about the <strong>PERFORMANCE SIMULATOR® for Applied Technology during Lessons</strong>.</p>
<p>The event aimed to translate the theoretical base-structure provided by the ministry for education into work streams and identify typical school-day scenes, which can be used for the production of E-Learning-tools.</p>
<p>Due to the goal-oriented preparation of transformis® and the twelve teachers from the ECNU, the event was a success. The workshop stimulated lively discussions between professors, experts, and teachers, which lead to productive exchanges and new targets for the program <strong>PERFORMANCE SIMULATOR®.</strong></p>
<p>Subsequently to the workshop, the twelve experts were able to produce a screenplay including all necessary identified school-day scenes, which will be modified and finalized by the production team during the next step in the beginning of October. We are proud of the outcome and look forward to the presentation of an excellent training program for Chinese teachers.</p>

<p>The <strong>PERFORMANCE SIMULATOR® for Applied Technology during Lessons</strong> is a project which was initiated in the end of 2013 by transformis® and the East China Normal University. Its goal is to provide Chinese teachers with an efficient online training program, embedded in a modern media-platform.</p>
<p>The program is based on the <strong>PERFORMANCE SIMULATOR® </strong>concept, which supports the traditional training methods in an innovative way by using visual scenes and examples from typical school-days. This way, an interesting and comprehensive learning experience is created in line with our blended learning understanding.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This is pilot project between transformis® and the Songjiang Teacher’s Training College aims to introduce our e-learning platform and implement and evaluate the <strong>PERFORMANCE SIMULATOR® Directing in Teaching</strong>.</p>
<p>The team at transformis® has, in recent months, designed and developed an online platform based on a Learning Management System (LMS), which can meet the specific technical requirements of Chinese teachers. Learning management systems and bulletin board systems (BBS) have been in use for many years. They have been implemented more widely in the education sector in China than the European countries, for example, Germany.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-6334" src="http://en.transformis-consulting.de/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/kickoff-sj_DE.png" alt="by transformis®" width="1060" height="367" /> <!--:--><span id="more-6329"></span>The kick-off workshop successfully took place on 15th Jan. 2014. The participants included 40 young teachers who are high-performers from kindergardens, primary schools, middle schools and high schools. We have received very positive feedback from the participants, who have found the workshop very interesting, active and engaging. Through the role play, an intensive discussion among the participants has been initiated and the content of the <strong>PERFORMANCE SIMULATOR® </strong>has been entrusted with Chinese cultural connotation. Soon after the workshop, some of the teachers have written feedback to the workshop and expressed their wish to deepen the discussion on the content with us.</p>

<p><em>In the video, the pupil has made a mistake in the task and the teacher was very angry and asked the pupil to repeat the same task twice. The mother came to pick up the pupil and asked for the reason why she was still doing the coursework. The pupil told her mum that she made a mistake and the teacher asked her to repeat the coursework twice. The mother was angry and said to the teacher: “My child is only in the first grade, why does she have to do so much coursework?! What you did is a punishment for the kid and I will file a complaint against you.“</em></p>
<p>One participant has written an article about the current teaching practice in Chinese schools, based on the content of the workshop.<br />
“Being student-orientated” is the fundamental education concept in the contemporary school education. This concept is well known to the teaching professionals. However, it is not easy to be student-orientated at the right time in teaching practices both in China and European countries. Particularly, teachers can usually not fulfill the requirements for being student-orientated adequately and even ignore students’ needs and requests in order to keep up with the teaching plans. Such a practice has diverged from the essence of “student-orientation”.<br />
The <strong>PERFORMANCE SIMULATOR® Directing in Teaching </strong>has shown us that school teachers in Germany have also encountered the same problem of how to meet students’ needs effectively, which is also a common phenomenon in the Chinese classroom.”</p>
<h2>Introduction of Songjiang Teachers’ Training College</h2>
<p>The innovative project between transformis® and Songjiang Teacher’s Training College began in October 2013, with the purpose to develop innovative teaching training programmes. Songjiang Teacher’s Training College was established in March 1960. In the past 40 years, with the social changes and transformation, the college has been continuously engaged in improving teaching methods, exploring innovative training programmes and achieving teaching excellency.<br />
Songjiang Teacher’s Training College aims to enhance the competences of 8.000 teachers in the Songjiang District, with a special focus on successfully equipping the teachers with the required knowledge, necessary skills together with the underlying attitude to handle the challenges of the internationalization process.</p>

			<p>The first of our two pilot projects in the education sector has started this week in Shanghai. This is a collaboration between transformis®S and two of the largest institutions for teacher training in Shanghai: The Institute of Education Developent (PIED) and the Teacher Training College of Songjiang (TTCS). The aims of the pilot projects are to introduce our e-learning platform and to implement and evaluate the <strong>PERFORMANCE SIMULATOR – Directing in Teaching</strong> with selected teachers.<!--:cn--></p>
<p>The team of transformis® have in recent months designed and developed an online platform based on a Learning Management System (LMS), which can meet the specific technical requirements of the Chinese teachers. In China, learning management systems and bulletin board systems (BBS) have been in use for many years. They have been implemented more widely in the education sector in China than in European countries, for example Germany.<!--:--></p>
<p>The first kick-off with 40 participants took place on Monday, 30th Jan. 2014. The kick-off has proven to be a success. The participants were directors of the institute and trainers from the Teacher’s Training Department and the School Management Training Department. We have received very positive feedback from the participants, who have found the introduction of the LMS very interesting, active and engaging. The scenes of the PERFORMANCE SIMULATOR shown in the workshop led to a constructive and intensive dialogue among teachers. The focus of the discussion were particular the cultural differences between German and Chinese pupils and teachers. The tool available is a good basis to promote exchange of what has been seen and what has been experienced.</p>
<p>The participants agreed that online training is valuable and practical because they can access the PERFORMANCE SIMULATOR via the learning platform at anytime and anywhere. Through the integrated Bulletin Board System, the participants can exchange their experience and observations.</p>

			<h2>What is PIED?</h2>
<p>In April 2012, S&amp;P began cooperating with Shanghai Pudong Institute of Education Development (PIED) in a project to establish an international education exchange platform. PIED was founded in October 2004, and is the first regionally based institute of education research and development in China. The institute is strongly engaged in the advanced training of teaching professionals, improving regional teaching quality, popularizing new teaching technology and implementing international educational exchange projects.</p>
<p>PIED aims to strengthen the competencies of 35,000 school teachers in Shanghai’s Pudong school district. PIED’s objectives particularly emphasize successfully equipping the teachers with the required knowledge, necessary skills together with the underlying attitude to handle the challenges of the internationalization process.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In the context of the cooperation between the East China Normal University (ECNU) in Shanghai and the transformis® International Consulting Group a production contract for the production of the first PERFORMANCE SIMULATOR® in China in Shanghai was signed on 12 December 2013.<br />
As part of a dissertation at the ECNU the competencies which are relevant for Chinese teachers have been identified. In the next step, these competencies are validated with the participation of lessons from all districts of China, in order to create realistic simulation scenes for the <strong>PERFORMANCE SIMULATOR®</strong>.</p>

I am delighted that we have signed the contract today and now can start with the project&#8221;.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="margin-bottom:4em">On 9th December 2013 the first seminar took place at the East China Normal University (ECNU) in Shanghai. It was held by Robert A. Sedlák, Guest Professor of the ECNU. The topic was &#8220;Introduction to the New Systems Theory Part 1&#8221;. Robert A. Sedlák presented the main elements of the New Systems Theory.</p>
<p>He discussed the difference between the externally organized and self-organized systems, the operative closure of systems, the nature of autopoietic systems, the distinction between truth and reality and the context relation of human behavior.</p>
<p>Almost 40, very interested students showed great interest in the contents. Some of them currently deal with their PhD promotion. The seminar was held in the English language and was partially translated into Chinese by Mrs Hanhan Jia. This was adopted very grateful by the participants. Basically the seminar can be considered a great success, because once again it became clear which big differences the new systems theory has compared to other models.</p>

<p>By 2014 more seminars are planned. A particular interest is on the topic strategy development and implementation.</p>
